Eligible study courses

This information is provided solely as a guideline; only the laws published in the Official Journal of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg are authoritative.

You can receive AideFi for a higher education programme if that programme meets the legal requirements.

The programme must:

  1. officially belong to the academic higher education system of the country in which the diploma, title, or degree is awarded;
  2. lead, upon successful completion, to a diploma, title, or degree that is recognized as a higher education qualification in that country;
  3. correspond to an eligible higher education cycle: short cycle, first cycle, second cycle, or single-cycle programme.

From the 2026/2027 academic year onwards, third-cycle programmes, including doctorates, PhDs, or equivalent programmes, as well as medical specialisation programmes that belong to the third cycle of higher education, are no longer eligible for AideFi.

Students pursuing a doctoral project are invited to contact the FNR (Fonds National de la Recherche) at fnr.lu for information on financial support available to doctoral candidates.

Medical doctors undergoing specialist training abroad may, under certain conditions, benefit from specific financial assistance provided by the Ministry of Health and Social Security. For information or applications regarding this assistance, concerned persons are invited to contact the Ministry of Health and Social Security directly at: professions.medicales@ms.etat.lu

Students who have already received AideFi for one of the above-mentioned programmes will continue to benefit from financial aid in order to complete that programme, within the limits and conditions provided for by the applicable legislation.

Eligibility does not depend solely on the status of the institution offering the programme. The diploma, title, or degree awarded upon completion of the programme must also be recognized by the state in which it is awarded as belonging to academic higher education.
