Basic grant

1. Final enrolment certificate

Final certificate of enrolment issued by the university or educational institution.

2. Student identity card

Copy of the student's identity card.

Note:
This document is not required if the application is submitted using LuxTrust or eID.

3. Student bank account details (RIB)

Bank account details (RIB) in the student's name.

Note:
This document must be requested from the bank. It is required only for the first application or in the event of a change of bank account.

4. Final DGES notification

Final notification from DGES for the current academic year (notificação definitiva da DGES).

Remarque:
This document is mandatory. To obtain it, you must first submit a complete application file through the portal of the Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior.

4.1. Housing supplement certificate

Certificate indicating whether a housing supplement has been granted to you and, where applicable, its amount (declaração / comprovativo do complemento de alojamento).

This document must be attached only if you receive a grant in Portugal. The housing supplement is assistance granted to scholarship students who have relocated and have not obtained a place in a public student residence.

5. Document relating to family allowances in Portugal

Official document relating to family allowances in Portugal (abono de família para crianças e jovens).

If you receive family allowances in Portugal, attach a recent certificate indicating the monthly amount paid for the student since 1 August (declaração / comprovativo do montante mensal do abono de família pago desde 1 de agosto).

If you do not receive family allowances in Portugal, attach an official certificate stating that you are not entitled to family allowances (declaração de não atribuição do abono de família / certidão de não atribuição).

Useful information:
If you no longer receive family allowances in Luxembourg from the CAE (Caisse pour l’avenir des enfants), you may, depending on your situation, apply for family allowances in Portugal. This is possible if you reside in Portugal and meet the conditions laid down by Portuguese legislation. In this case, it is recommended to request a document from the CAE confirming the non-payment or termination of family allowance payments.

6. Household composition certificate

Household composition certificate (certidão de agregado familiar).

Note:
This document must be issued by the municipality of residence of the student and indicate all persons forming part of the household.

7. Academic results from previous semesters

Either transcripts of results from all previous semesters or a certificate from the higher education institution indicating the total number of validated ECTS credits or, where applicable, the total number of credits applicable in the country of study.

Possible documents:

  • certificados de aproveitamento ;
  • histórico escolar ;
  • comprovativos de resultados académicos ;
  • declaração da instituição de ensino superior com indicação do número total de ECTS/créditos obtidos.

Social grant

1. Portuguese income tax assessment notice

Most recent available Portuguese income tax assessment notice (nota de liquidação do IRS).

This document must be provided:

  • by the parent or parents; or
  • by the parent and his/her spouse/partner,

provided that they belong to the same household as the student.

Attention:
All pages of the tax assessment notice must be attached.

1.1. Documents to be provided if you have no income in Portugal

If you need to prove the absence of income in Portugal, you may attach one of the following documents:

  • certidão de dispensa de entrega de IRS ;
  • certidão de não dívida ;
  • declaração de situação contributiva ;
  • atestado de Junta de Freguesia / atestado de vivência.

These documents can be obtained:

  • online via the Portal das Finanças or Segurança Social Direta;
  • in person from the Finanças, Social Security, or the Junta de Freguesia.

Attention:
If you are a tax resident in Portugal and have no income, your situation must nevertheless be clearly documented. If you receive income abroad, it may be taken into account by Social Security.

2. Luxembourg income certificate

Luxembourg income certificate of the parent(s), or of the parent and spouse/partner, where they work in Luxembourg and belong to the same household as the student.

Conditions:

  • the issue date of the certificate must be recent (maximum 3 months before your application);
  • the certificate must concern the most recent year for which taxation took place;
  • a certificate stating that no tax assessment was carried out will not be accepted.

How to obtain an income certificate?

The income certificate can be requested from the territorially competent office of the Luxembourg Inland Revenue (ACD).

The request may be submitted:

  • by telephone at (+352) 247-52475;
  • via the contact form.

The income certificate can either be collected directly from the competent office during opening hours (7:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.) or be sent by post to the applicant's legal address.

The request addressed to the ACD must contain:

  • the applicant’s name(s);
  • the applicant’s file number/matricule;
  • the applicant’s address;
  • the authority requesting the certificate and the reason for the request.

2.1. Additional documents if the Luxembourg income certificate states “not taxable by assessment”

In this case, also attach:

  • all annual salary certificates;
  • all annual pension certificates;
  • all annual unemployment benefit certificates.

Mobility grant

1. Lease contract

A copy of the lease contract, sublease contract, shared accommodation contract, or university residence contract must be provided with the initial application, and whenever the contract is amended or replaced.

The student's name must appear on the lease contract as a signatory or co-signatory.

The accommodation covered by the lease contract may not be owned by the student, their parents, or their grandparents.

2. A proof of payment of the rent

Proof of rent payment issued within the three months preceding the date of submission of the application must be provided.

The rent may be paid by the student's parents, provided that the payee and the amount paid correspond to the terms set out in the lease contract.

3. A copy of the mobility contract (only for the mobility semester or Erasmus+))

A copy of the mobility agreement must be included in the application file if the student is undertaking a mobility semester under the Erasmus+ programme or any other mobility programme.

Enrolment and tuition fees

1. Invoice for expenses that must be paid for admission to the study programme, including fees related to:

  • Enrolment and tuition
    All fees related to the right of access and participation in the study programme. These tuition fees may be charged according to different arrangements, including annually, monthly or per semester.
  • Secondary school diploma equivalence procedures
    Some higher education institutions require a certificate of equivalence of the Luxembourg diploma when examining applications. This procedure must generally be carried out in the country of study, with the competent authority or directly with the university (e.g. DGEO equivalence in Belgium).
  • Language proficiency tests
    When studying abroad, it is often necessary to prove proficiency in the language of instruction (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL).
  • Translation of diplomas
    Foreign universities frequently require official diplomas translated into the language of the country or into English (e.g. a French diploma translated into German and certified by a sworn translator).
  • Grade system conversions
    Foreign institutions may require grades shown on diplomas or transcripts to be converted into their own grading system (GPA, ECTS, etc.).
  • Application submission
    These include administrative fees related to submitting an application to an institution. Such fees are generally required as part of the admission procedure and do not guarantee acceptance of the application (e.g. fees related to compulsory entrance examinations).

2. Proof of payment (recibos do pagamento das propinas) for each fee paid

For each individual fee, proof of payment matching the amount indicated on the invoice must be provided.

Depending on the circumstances, additional supporting documents may be required.
